Client Case Study
The Asian Pacific Community Fund (APCF) is a non-profit organization that raises money to distribute to agencies that assist the Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities in Southern California. It's like the United Way but focused specifically on the needs of the API population.
When APCF first came to Pathlight, their intention was to make a simple promo with still photos, some background music, and narration. However, during their consultation, it became clear that they needed more than a simple promo. Their problem was not lacking publicity, but it was needing to convince donors that their cause matters. We therefore suggested a promotional documentary, which would give the people that APCF helps the opportunity to speak for themselves.
We began by writing a script that would explain the need for donations, while keeping some space open to bring in real-life stories of people that have been helped by APCF. Over the course of a few weeks, we interviewed four different agencies affiliated with APCF. We made sure to film their daily work and interview a few people involved.
After compiling about three hours of raw footage, we sorted through the interviews to find the most compelling responses. We integrated those into the script and blended them in seamlessly with our editing. In the end, we delivered a product that was, according to their executive director, "far better" than what they expected.
